CCIE Route Switch v 5 Book List

TitleDescription
Your CCIE Lab Success Strategy:The Non-Technical GuidebookThis should be the very first book you read when trying to determine if this path is right for you.
A Mind for Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science (Even If You Flunked Algebra) 1st EditionNothing to do with Cisco or Networking. However, this goes over how the brain and memory work. Which I wish I had rad a few decades ago!!!!
Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning 1st EditionAlso not on networking or Cisco, but goes over memory as well. I highly recommend this one!
Internetworking with TCP/IP Volume One (6th Edition)This is one of the best books I've ever read on TCP/IP. I highly recommend it!
Moonwalking With Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything Hardcover – March 3, 2011The other two books are better then this with memory. This one is more interesting then providing methods. If you have the time to read it adds to the other two on memory.
TCP/IP Illustrated, Volume 1: The Protocols (2nd Edition)Another book for a different view on TCP/IP
TCP/IP Network Administration (3rd Edition; O'Reilly Networking)Will update this later
Interconnections: Bridges, Routers, Switches, and Internetworking Protocols (2nd Edition)Will update this later
Cisco IP Routing: Packet Forwarding and Intra-domain Routing ProtocolsWill update this later

Cisco Express ForwardingGreat short and to the point book on CEF. I would highly recommend it.
Internet Routing Architectures (2nd Edition)Will update this later
Cisco LAN Switching (CCIE Professional Development series)Some of this content is very dated, however, there is a lot that is still relevant. There are not many newer books on Switching so I very much recommend it!
Wireshark Network Analysis (Second Edition): The Official Wireshark Certified Network Analyst Study Guide 2nd EditionThis is a great book on seeing what all Wireshark can do. It also includes a ton of free captures on their site. I would recommend seeing if a library has it or buying it used.
OSPF: Anatomy of an Internet Routing Protocol 1st EditionOne of the most recommended books for OSPF. I recommend this one.
BGP 1st EditionAnother O'Reilly Book on BGP. This was okay but there are better out there.
MPLS Fundamentals 1st EditionThis is a MUST read for MPLS. There are portions not applicable to the Lab such as MPLS TE, but most of it is very good!
MPLS-Enabled Applications: Emerging Developments and New Technologies 3rd EditionAnother great book on MPLS
IPv6: Theory, Protocol, and Practice (The Morgan Kaufmann Series in Networking) 2nd EditionGreat book on IPv6. Realize that some changes have been made such as Site Local Addressing.
BGP for Cisco Networks: A CCIE v5 guide to the Border Gateway Protocol (Cisco CCIE Routing and Switching v5.0) (Volume 1) Paperback – March 14, 2014A must read BGP book!
Cisco IP Routing: Packet Forwarding and Intra-domain Routing ProtocolsWill update this later
View this order Cisco Self-Study: Implementing Cisco IPv6 Networks (IPV6)Another good IPv6 book. Again remember some technologies have changed with IPv6
Introducing Regular Expressions: Unraveling Regular Expressions, Step-by-Step 1st EditionI recommend this book or one similar to learn a little about Regex which is used with BGP.
CCIE Routing and Switching v5.1 Foundations: Bridging the Gap Between CCNP and CCIE (Practical Studies) 1st EditionAmazing book by Narbik! He has some amazing content! Must read!
Inside Cisco IOS Software Architecture (CCIE Professional Development) Hardcover – August 7, 2000Very old book but goes over some IOS specific information that is hard to find in a book. I would recommend it.

Optimal Routing Design Hardcover – June 17, 2005Have started to read this but have not made it very far yet.
IPv6 Fundamentals: A Straightforward Approach to Understanding IPv6 2nd Edition by Rick GrazianiThis is the best Ipv6 I have read thus far. The most up to date and some great references listed as well. A MUST read!
